The advantage is that you can get the same effect as a parabolic dish without bending in 2 directions. So all you need is sheet material. anyone who has made a parabolic dish knows how much the reflective material wrinkles when you make the dish. This would be almost eliminated if you are only bending in one direction.
I am very surprised that I have never seen this technique before. I think it will prove very useful once people start trying it.
It might work for shining the light up under upside down box cookers, and it might also be adaptable enough so that with some modifications people can make the "compound parabolic effect" (a larger area of light which stays on the one area much longer).
Anyway, take a look and comment.
Also, how about rating the guy's video? I think what he has done is brilliantly simple and he has made big efforts to share his ideas.

Hi, Tom, I have not done it myself and I have only basic understanding of it. I think the guy would be happy to add it (or to let you add it) if you contact him.
He has some pretty neat text and picture explanations

Hi Brian!
I watched the videoes and read the background information, and am impressed like you. This is really something I would like to try, but like you I am not sure that I understand it fully.
I know how to construct parabolas though. I will definitely read it all again, and when I have summer vacation, I will try some cooking.
Thank you for giving us this information which in my opinion is quite revolutonary!
