The Cauldron Solar Cooker

Dear SCI,

Included are a few pictures of my solar cooker: one picture of the cauldron being used for its original purpose, two of the cauldron being used as part of a solar cooker, and one picture of a delicious vegetarian meal I cooked in the solar cooker.

My solar cooker is made of a large iron cauldron that I have used in the past over a fire. While reading your groups website about constructing a parabolic cooker I thought that my cauldron would probably work well as a solar cooker. It certainly does.

Next, I lined the cauldron with aluminum foil and finally topped it off with a piece of Plexiglas. The black pot that I cook meals in easily reaches 250°F and usually reaches around 300°F.

The solar cooker I made cost me practically nothing. I bought the cauldron many years ago, the Plexiglas was recycled scrap from a previous job and the aluminum foil only cost a few cents.

With warm regards,

Mr. Lance Willard
