  A Solar Box Cooker

The SOS Sport is one of the best solar ovens developed in the past 25 years. It is designed to be a lightweight, attractive, effective, durable, low-cost solar oven. It weighs 11 lbs. and measures 12 ¼" x 27 ½" x 17". The SOS Sport will cook entire meals: meats, vegetables, grains, beans, and fruits as well as baking breads, cookies and cakes. Meats are cooked tender and tasty.

  • Easy to use.

  • Reaches temperatures up to 275 ° F

  • Ruggedly built for years of trouble-free use. No glass to break.

  • Weatherproof and wind resistant.

  • As portable as a small suitcase.

  • Food won't stick or burn - great for reheating.

  • Safe - no danger of fire!

  • Saves money on fuel by cooking most foods with the power of the sun.

  • Saves money on air conditioning by keeping the heat out of the kitchen.

  • Pasteurizes water and other liquids.

  • Good for fishing, camping or boating.

  • Great for science projects.

  • Made from post consumer recycled beverage bottles.

HOW DOES THE SOS SPORT WORK?

The Solar Oven Society (SOS) has produced the SOS SPORT with a tough plastic housing, good insulation, durable aluminum liner and a clear lid. Dark cooking pots and the dark aluminum floor convert sun rays to heat that is trapped in the oven.

Cooking times are typically 1½ to 2 times longer than with conventional ovens. Since no water needs to be added to fruits, vegetables or meats, more vitamins and minerals are retained and food is more nutritious and flavorful.

Cooking times vary depending on location, amount of sunshine and the angle of the sun. Generally a 1½ quart pot of rice will cook in 1½ to 2 hours and a chicken will usually bake nicely in 2 to 2½ hours. The cooker needs re-aiming infrequently, as the slant-face design accepts sunlight from a large portion of the sky. Contact Us if you have further questions.
